saturday for me meant nonstop sunshine, fresh delicious food, exceptional frostry drinks and the celebration of one of my special friends bobo mokgoro at johannesburg’s neighbourgoods market. there were beautiful people and smiles all around… what better way to celebrate life!

remember the 80’s? of course we do (well those of us over 30).. some of the best music, yet some of the worst clothes came out of that decade (same is true for the 90’s). the best thing about reminiscing on the 80’s in the 2011, is now we know better and can pick out the best & laugh at the worst! this house party was the best of all of it… i think it even gave brooklyn a run for it’s money on dope house parties.. hmmm.

one of the best things about my job is the varied personalities you encounter both big and small on a daily basis. sometimes you might want to laugh with them, sometimes they might almost make you cry, but sometimes… the biggest & brightest personalities come in the smallest packages. as my mother always told me “dynamite comes in small packages” and this young lady is sure to make a mark.

my recent engagement session with starr and anslem [might i add it was my first ever] has had a bit of excitement surrounding it. i wish i could say it was only my wonderfully awesome and amazing photography, but these two spunky creatives did all the work. the friendship & love that they have for each other would be easy for anyone to capture and a pleasure for anyone to see. thanks to them my images are now only essence.com in their “just engaged” section complete with the story of their journey to forever. take a look at the their journey here.

i’ve known anslem for some years now. a long-time fan of his popular love & relationship blog naked with socks on, we’ve been through plenty of conversations on dating & love.. i’ve even been a guest anonymous commentator on his blog (had to protect my identity) and thought about contributing even, as i have so much great advice to give lol.. (if only he would have let me). with all my travels our keeping in touch was far and few in between. after months of not talking, he randomly reached out to me to do a same day last min job for black enterprise. after leaving i received another message thanking me… and also asking me to take his engagement photos. i was floored & excited, been wanting to do this for a min & anslem & starr were the perfect first couple to get my feet wet with. both writers, editors & blog owners (starr has an awesome lifestyle, culture & art blog called Gangstarr Girl & is also the pop culture editor for vibe) i knew it would be easy! we hopped on the R train to coney island & had a day filled with sugar, love, fun and plenty of laughs.

one of the things i love about brooklyn the most is that you never know where you are going to end up, or who you are going to end up with.. i love meeting new people and making new friends. shouts out to soul & her sister dynasty for having this dope rooftop party somewhere deep in brooklyn that offered me an experience i have yet to have in new york! these are the moments that mean the most to me as i prepare to separate from one of the biggest loves of my life and take my chances on a new love… johannesburg.
